So I was looking at the facebook and twitter page for where I work and was fed up of seeing the standard logo as the profile picture, so I wanted to come up with something fast. I wanted to still keep it clean and corporate. I have been very addicted to instagram taking all lovely photos on my phone and adding nice effects, so this is what I set out to achieve, I wanted something with a instagram feel. Slight problem with instagram is if you have a rubbish camera on phone the photo will be rubbish. So I got a bog standard camera and shot my bosses business card :) as you can see I have no lighting set up and I didn’t want to bleach the colours with a flash as I was taking a really close up shot. I then took the photo into photoshop and started to retouch. For this retouch I focused on high pass effect. I duplicated the photo added high pass to the top layer then changed the layer to vivid light. I then merged the layer again and duplicated and on the top layer again added high pass again this time with a higher pixel radius. After that I then changed the layer to colour and took the opacity down and merged it again. Basically this kinda sharpens the image but can change the colours so to sort this out I then basically messed with selective colours, curves and levels to achieve the colours and style wanted. To finish up I selected part of the image with a circle and inversed the selection and feathered it and added a gaussian blur.
So thats how I did a DIY version of taking a corporate photo. Very simple, fast and hopefully effective.
Why not see it on the page?? and also check out the lastest piece created by Dave Topliss were he has painted a digital painting of Boris Karloff.
